Jocelyn - 1 yr checkup

Jocelyn is now:

30 1/4 inches long (81st %)
17 lbs 8 oz (15th %)
And 78th % in head circumference

Her head circumference all of a sudden jumped up, she's always been around the 50th percentile. But otherwise her length and height are the same percentiles as when she was born, so she's growing pretty steady! From her last appointment she is up from the 10th percentile in weight and her height is looking better - last time we thought there was probably a bad measurement because it was much lower than normal (for her).

She is doing great!

Easter egg hunt

We had a fun Easter egg hunt with Jocelyn!

On the hunt! She wore her bunny ears the whole time, which is impressive.

The first few eggs took the longest to find and then I think she figured it out a little more. And stopped being distracted by the grass in the basket.

Jocelyn crawling

Our sweet girl finally decided to start crawling! One day she just got on her knees one day this last week and then went. She hadn't even been able to get on her knees before this, but once she figured that part out I guess the rest was easy! Now she likes pulling the dvds off the shelf, chasing us (sort of), and likes being at grandma Brown's house with lots of space (we're here now).

Sometimes she crawls with her left foot instead of her left knee. She still likes walking around too and tries to pull herself up on our furniture but mostly gets frustrated and wants us to help.

Dolls and my bday

Jocelyn loves her dolls! It's so fun to watch her play with them. Sometimes she grabs one by the neck and shakes it around, I think she's still showing affection when she does it though. Trying to at least.

She was putting the doll's hair to her ear to see how it felt. She puts a lot of toys to her ear actually, makes it look like she's trying to talk on a phone, but I don't know where she got that from. Her hippo rattle especially looks like a phone when she does it.

Trvor got me a HarryPotter coloring book for my bday!

And some other stuff too - itunes gift card, blank cds to burn the music on, a potato masher, salad tongs, book called The Fall of Yugoslavia, nail polish, colored pencios, and stuff for my diploma frame (the glass and backing, he made the frame for me last year). And Jocelyn told me "dadadada" which means happy birthday :)

9 month checkup

Itty bitty Jocelyn had her 9 month check up and is quite small! It was a little surprising. So her head circumference is still on track at 50th percentile. Otherwise, she weighed 15 lbs 3 oz, which is less than the 10th percentile (which is her usual perc.). Her doctor said he's not worried because it's normal for babies to lose weight at this age because they're getting more active. Then she was 28 inches long which was less than 75th percentile,  where she has been in the 90th percentile for height in the past. Kinda strange. Her doctor made it seem like maybe the nurse got an off measurement, it was a different nurse than we usually see and he said something like, some nurses do it different. Plus she did the head measurement twice because the first time it looked off, so I wouldn't be surprised if the length was also off. If her height is low again next time he said he might worry, but he doesn't worry if it happens once.

So Jocelyn is just tiny for now, but she's happy and healthy!

She loves walking and running around. She's done a few really cute things the past few days. We said some prayers and at the end said "amen" and she said, "ah-ah" with us. And then at primary music time the chorister was leading the music and Jocelyn was staring at her so hard, concentrating, and waving her hand, Trevor said she was doing it almost on beat too. So stinking cute!

Learning to walk

Instead of figuring out crawling, Jocelyn wants to walk everywhere! We like to play "find mom" where I go down the hall and step into one of the rooms and she follows down the hall with Trevor helping her walk. It's very cute!

We have a scooter!

You can see her move a little around second 20. She does that enough and she can get places. She also does this now from a sitting position:

This is after she fell on her stomach, but she balances on her feet underneath her, it looks really uncomfortable.

So fun to have her figuring some things out!

Jocelyn 6 Months

At her 6 month appointment Jocelyn was in the 90th percentile for height, 10th percentile for weight, and 50th percentile for head circumference.  So right on track for her! 27 1/4 inches long and 14 lbs 1 oz.

4 month checkup!

She's been making this face a lot lately, love it!

Jocelyn's checkup went well, there was some concern about her low weight gain, but we talked it over and the doctor thinks she's okay because she's sleeping well, happy when she's awake, and she is growing taller and her brain is growing. So she's our happy, tall and skinny baby!

Weight: 11 lbs. 11 oz. (10 lbs. 4 oz. at 2 mos) - 10th perc. (20th at 2 mos)
Height: 26 1/4 inches (24 3/4 in. at 2 mos) - 95th perc. (90th at 2 mos)
Head circumference: 50th perc. (50th at 2 mos too)

We love her to pieces and are so glad she's happy and healthy!

Year in Review - May 2014-May 2015

Our third year of marriage was a great one! Wish I had more pictures, because this post might be a little boring without them, but oh well.

School:

My senior year of college began with summer semester, which was probably my favorite semester because it was so fun to be on campus when it was quiet and laid back. I spent lots of time at the library, eating lunch, watching project runway online, and doing homework.

My last semester was crazy busy. I had tons of readings and papers for each class. I took five classes: History of Africa, Russian politics, Latin American anthropology, Latin American politics, and a senior research class that focused on the Arab Spring. It was fun to study different areas of the world and as always I was surprised at how much the topics overlapped. I graduated in December with a Bachelor of Science in political science, with a minor in history. It is so exciting to be done! I wanted to walk in the ceremony in May, but it was less than two weeks after Jocelyn was born and didn't work out. 

Trevor had a good school year too. He did more secondary ed classes, did some clinical hours at a middle school, and had a pretty busy spring semester, plus had a new baby a week before finals! Luckily he worked with his teachers and was able to do some finals early, before baby was born. He only has one more school year now before he graduates!

We met one of my mission companions at Crown Burger when she was visiting from Canada! I think it was November or early December. 

Holidays:

To celebrate most holidays and birthdays this last year we ate out at Panda Express. This was true of Trevor's birthday, my birthday, Valentines Day, baby's arrival celebration, and our anniversary. We love Panda!!! For Halloween we went to a USU basketball game. Thanksgiving we spent at the Brown's. And Christmas we went to Idaho Falls. New year's eve we were at the Brown's also.

Our anniversary this year was great! We spent it moving to our new apartment that we love. It's so great to have more space for our own stuff and for all of Jocelyn's stuff. As we were unpacking some boxes that afternoon I said to Trevor, there's a box in our room with "SURPRISE" written on it! He acted like he didn't know what it was of course, and let me open it later. It was an anniversary surprise for me! Panda Express gift card, Legend of Korra season 4, and treats for the evening. Baby even cooperated and slept long enough for us to hang out and enjoy it all. It was so much fun and a good surprise. I really hadn't been thinking about celebrating our anniversary, so I'm glad Trevor did think about it!

In February we went to Salt Lake for a weekend when Trevor had a school conference he had to go to. I spent the day shopping and got to go to Europa Market, which had Eastern European imports, including a lot of brands that were in croatia. It was so fun to see that familiar did and get some favorites! 

Baby:

At the beginning of August we found out we were expecting a baby! I was so shocked because before I took the pregnancy test I was certain I was NOT pregnant, which just shows that it always happens when you least expect it. I had a great pregnancy, no morning sickness, only had heartburn like two or three times, no swelling up, I was tired but it was manageable, and I didn't get a ginormous belly until the very end. I actually was a little sad about that, I'd see ladies who weren't as far along as me and were bigger and I was a little jealous, which was weird!  I wasn't expecting that. After I finished school I kept working part time until a few weeks before or due date and had time to just get everything ready for baby to come. 

Jocelyn was born right on her due date too! It was a crazy day. I woke up around midnight Monday night/Tuesday morning and didn't sleep until after midnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Even after she was born I couldn't believe that we had a baby!

That's the short version of our year, which is all I'll do since I keep putting it off anyway! It was a fantastic year!

This is by our new apartment- it says "Beware of dog" and then says "no pas" - pas in croatian means dog, so it says beware of dog and then no dog. Hahaha!

Growth spurt

Last week Jocelyn could wear all her newborn size pajamas, and this week they are all way too small! She is growing so fast!

When she gets her arms free she likes to feel the back of her head/ play with her hair, it's the cutest thing and helps her calm herself down!

One month to go!

Here's the baby bump as of March 21st, exactly one month to baby's due date!

As a bonus, I got free tickets to the cache Valley ballets's performance of Hansel and Gretel from work so we got to go to the theater! Our seats were on the third row!

30 weeks

This is the first bump picture we've taken, wish we had done some before so we could see how fast it grew. Just a month and a half ago there was hardly anything there! Only ten more weeks to go!

Christmas break

Trevor got his wisdom teeth out a week before Christmas and was pretty miserable. But he had fun playing with the kids! 

 I made these stockings! Trevor made the table as a Christmas present to me, the manger to go with our new nativity set, and the entertainment center as a family gift and final project for his woods class. He also made me a frame for my diploma but I don't have a picture of it.

I made this blanket for our friends that just had their first baby!

Our Gingerbread houses! We also enjoyed looking at Christmas lights, playing games, shopping (for me, Trevor didn't have to come with since there were others willing to), and eating all the delicious food!

Summer Semester OVER!

Today I took my last finals for summer semester! Yay! Only one semester left!! I had a lot of interesting classes this summer because I took whatever would fill up a full schedule and get me credits so that I can graduate in the fall. I needed at least 15 credits and I took 17 because I wanted to take the first aid class. These are the classes that I took!


First Aid: We learned CPR and basic first aid. It was a lot of fun, a lot of hands on practicing, and the whole time I was thinking "Please, I hope I never have to use any of this!" I recommend that everyone learns CPR because you could save a life!


Human Development: We went over the whole lifespan from conception to death. We ended on death, which was a little depressing, but very interesting too. I thought the most interesting part of the course was middle adulthood, just thinking about mom and dad and what we all have to look forward to!


American history - post-Civil War to present: I learned some cool things, but there was a lot of review, too. I had to take this class for a history minor and I think that knowing this recent history better will help me with my major, too.


Dress and Humanity: This class was a lot of fun because I got to be creative, which I haven't been able to do in a while! We learned about fashion and dress. There was a lot of technical classification stuff with it that I probably won't remember, but it was fun to be doing something different. I took this class for a depth requirement.


Natural Disasters: We learned about tectonic plates, earthquakes, volcanoes, flooding, tsunamis, landslides, climate change, etc. etc. Very interesting! One of the teacher's main points was before you buy a house check out the hazards because the real estate agent will not tell you about them and you could end up with a rock through your house!


World Civilizations: Another history class for my minor. At the time I thought it was a really boring class because we talked about all of these weird things like metallurgy and things you find in graves, but it is kind of helpful to know the very beginnings of humans. The most interesting part was trying to compare what science and history has said about humans with what religion says about it. The two aren't always compatible.


It was a good semester and now I am so excited for the break before fall! Yay for real summer!
